Pilates Photography

Just last week I got a lovely testimonial from Lesley of Studio 88 following our pilates photography shoot there. She wrote;

“Can’t thank Lionel enough for our latest photoshoot in Studio 88. I found Lionel very good to work with, he took my ideas and then he put his own spin on them achieving a fabulous result. Really happy with the finished products and will work with Lionel again in the future.”

That’s fantastic Lesley, thank you! I am really pleased that you are happy with the results. I hope all your students were equally happy with their environmental portraits. So I thought I would publish a small selection of the photos here again for you.

This work dates back to the spring time when Lesley asked me to shoot some photos to promote her business. We arranged for some of the girls to come in early. I was sure there were some great shots to be had of the Pilates Barre poses and I was not disappointed! The poses are quite ballerina like and I my thoughts and influences were coming straight from the work of the French Impressionist Edgar Degas. I think it still works well in the 21st century studio environment.

Lesley also wanted some shots of a class in progress and some social shots of the students as they relax and enjoy the craic between sessions. I think these turned out great as well. At that time there was a fantastic warm light entering from the low level windows on one side of the studio. It was quite strong, creating some nice reflections and shadows so I turned the flash units off and relied solely on ambient light. It made for some strong highlights, but that is fine too, I was happy that it added to the ambience.
